Safety and How to Prepare
What to Wear and Pack
While you need to prepare yourself for the stunning views of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, you also need to prepare for their rough terrain and changing conditions. Afternoon rain showers with thunder, lightning and dropping temperatures are normal in the mountains. This means you need to plan in advance and exercise appropriate caution on your hike. Pack light and smart:
- Light backpack
- Water bottle and snacks
- Sunscreen, sunglasses and hat
- Lightweight hiking/trail shoes and wicking socks
- Wind/rain jacket
- ID in case of emergency
Relax, hydrate, use the restroom, re-apply sunscreen and enjoy the company of our volunteers.
Safety and Accessibility
Think Safe
Your safety is our number one priority; that’s why we made Think Safe our motto. To do your part to ensure everyone is safe, please remember to:
- Arrive on time to beat the unpredictable summer weather
- Stay on marked trails
- Look for route support on the trails if you need assistance
- Stay properly hydrated and fed
If you have questions on how to prepare for the hike, get in touch with your healthcare provider before race day.
