Person on a pink bike riding by themselves“Riders everywhere should give Bike MS a chance.  It was totally out of my comfort zone.  No one cares if you are a seasoned rider or a rookie.  They just love the fact they you are out there helping to make a difference; the best part is listening to the panel stories of people who are living with MS.  We are making a difference and they are the proof!”

Things I Wish I Knew My First Year at Bike MS

(Tips from our Veteran Riders)

As a first time Bike MS: City to Shore participant, you might have some questions. To help ensure your Rookie Ride is the best it can be, your fellow cyclists and longtime volunteers created this welcome video with some helpful tips.

  1. Attend the Pre-event Logistics Meeting. Set yourself up for success leading up to your ride. This meeting will include an overview of event details and how to stay safe on the road, as well as an opportunity to connect with other cyclists and teams. Check out the Pre-Ride Activities page for info.
  2. Connect with your fellow cyclists. We say it all the time, Bike MS is not just a ride. It’s also a welcoming community with season-round opportunities to connect. Attend in-person events to meet your awesome Bike MS staff and fellow riders. The event will feel like a family reunion! Visit the Pre-Ride Activities page for upcoming pre-ride events.
  3. Fundraising doesn’t have to be overwhelming. There are so many resources like the DonorDrive app and Facebook Fundraising to make it easy! We promise the Fundraising Toolkit page of the website will be your new best friend.
  4. Try to earn the swag! The more you raise, the more lives you change and you can earn prizes along the way. Plus, if you’re one of our top fundraisers this season, you can flaunt the most coveted item of all: a local top fundraiser prize jersey! Check out the Prizes & Top Fundraisers page for the fundraising levels and prizes.
  5. Start training now. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or new to the sport we have some great training options for you. Check out our Training & Prep page for tips and look at our Pre-Ride Activities page for any local training rides.
  6. Padded shorts are not overrated. This one is pretty simple but still important! Your butt will thank you later.
  7. Make sure you check out the Ride Details page. On the Ride Details page, you’ll find info like the event schedule and routes and maps. Bookmark that page and check back often since all key event day info lives there.
  8. Set your sights high! The Rookie rider who fundraises the most at Bike MS: City to Shore will win the coveted Rookie of the Year award  and be honored at our annual City to Shore Awards
  9. Take advantage of all of the awesome Ride Weekend opportunities!
