Hope. Strength. Resilience. A Cure.

In 1992, I was a 22-year-old, just starting my life and career, when multiple sclerosis (MS) entered the picture. It began as a strange tingling in my chest while on a business trip—something I thought would pass. But it didn’t. It spread. It changed everything.

The diagnosis of relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) was terrifying. MS is unpredictable, progressive, and relentless. I was told my future would be filled with limitations. But I refused to let this disease define me.

A Life Rewritten, But Never Stopped

I grew up an athlete—track & field record-setter, soccer player, adrenaline-seeking snowboarder, mountain biker. Moving wasn’t just what I did; it was who I was. And so, after my diagnosis, I made a choice: I would fight.

For years, I defied the odds, pushing my body and mind beyond what doctors expected. Softball. Running. Biking. Snowboarding. Hiking. I held onto these things as long as I could, refusing to let MS take them from me without a fight.

But MS is a slow thief—it doesn’t take everything at once. It sneaks up on you, bit by bit, year after year. Strength fades. Balance shifts. Some days are easier than others, but I never stop moving forward.

Why I Walk

Today, MS has made some things harder—walking long distances, balance, even everyday tasks—but it has never taken away my will. I am still here. I am still strong. And I am still fighting.

I walk for myself. I walk for the 1 million people in the U.S. living with MS. I walk because a cure is possible, and I want to see it in my lifetime.

I also walk because I am not alone. Carrie, Ella, Lucy, my mother Claire and incredible family and friends, and my Walk MS team—Luke SkyWALKER and the Wookies—are my anchors. They remind me that I don’t fight this battle alone, and that hope is always within reach.
