Honorees
We are eager to celebrate the incredible progress being made in the world of MS while honoring our Persons of Courage and Corporate Champion for their significant contributions and commitment to the mission of the National MS Society.
2022 Corporate Champion
HOGAN TRANSPORTATION COMPANIES - We are pleased to recognize and honor Hogan Transportation Companies for their impressive and significant contributions. Their support has primarily centered around Bike MS in the past and their bike team, Team Hogan, has participated in the Bike MS Gateway Getaway for many years. They are the largest team for this event with over 100 riders and over the years they have raised more than 1 million dollars! Team Captain, Trey Hogan, leads this impressive team and will accept this honor at the 2022 Dinner of Champions.2022 Persons of Courage
WENDY SCHNEIDER - Wendy was diagnosed with MS in May of 1996 and soon thereafter attended a “newly diagnosed” program hosted by the National MS Society. This program gave her hope when she learned about the treatments available as well as the research to create new therapies. Since then, Wendy has been a regular participant in the Gateway chapter’s Challenge Walk which started in 2002. This event challenged people to walk 50 miles in a weekend and raise a considerable sum! “This event pushed my physical boundaries and nudged me to do more fundraising than I ordinarily would do. I thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime event.” 20 years later Wendy has completed a Challenge Walk every single year and walked over 1,000 miles. A thousand miles would be an accomplishment for anyone but consider Wendy's feet are always numb! Her fellow Challenge Walkers say that Wendy is the heart and soul of the event who never complains and is always thinking of others. She has also led a rest stop at the Bike MS Gateway Getaway for many years and it’s not just any rest stop – it’s one of the very best complete with cowbells, cookies and even root beer floats! Two of Wendy's favorite ways to spend time are to volunteer as a Wish Granter for a local wish-granting agency and to tutor with another non-profit; she also enjoys reading and hiking. Wendy thinks back on the past twenty five years and says “I remain grateful for my positive prognosis while pleading for more research. We are on the cusp of major changes that will result in countless dreams being re-imagined and newly limitless. This is why I remain involved.” Wendy epitomizes what it means to be a Person of Courage.TODD ROACH - Todd was diagnosed with MS in December of 2018 shortly after the birth of his twin daughters. Todd and his wife Jackie have five kids with the oldest being 12 years old with the youngest just over 1 years old. Todd is busy being a parent, husband, community advocate, serving as a City Alderman for his community, and works as a HR professional. Living with MS, Todd has turned those challenges into motivation to not only prove that MS is not an end but in fact a beginning. According to his wife Jackie, “This disease doesn’t just affect the individual. It has an impact on the entire family, and I am so proud of how Todd has chosen to use his talents to make a difference. He continues to demonstrate strength, resilience, courage, and has been a strong advocate for the cause.”
Todd first became active with the Society by joining the Illinois Government Relations Advisory committee where he works with legislators on both the state and federal level. Todd was also recently appointed by the Governor of Illinois as one of nine statewide community members to serve on the State of Illinois’ Access and Functional Needs Advisory Committee, with the purpose of recommending improvements to State agencies to integrate access and functional needs into State and local emergency plans and ensure that persons with a disability are included in disaster strategies and emergency management plans. His work spreads awareness for MS and advocates for laws that improve the lives of those living with MS as well as their families. In keeping with his desire to help other MS patients he works with many people in the community that have been affected by the disease, through education, connecting with other patients, cheering for others with MS and advocating for them. He wants everyone living with MS to understand the benefits and opportunities available to them. A tireless MS Warrior, Todd is very deserving of the Person of Courage award.
