Think Safe

Your safety is the number one priority at Bike MS and Think Safe is our motto for the entirety of this event.

Bike MS is for everyone, which means there is a great mix of riders with different experience and skill levels on the road together at every ride.

To do your part to ensure everyone arrives safely at the finish line, please review this safety information about personal safety, group riding skills, cycling etiquette and bike maintenance.

Remember, Bike MS is a ride, not a race. All cyclists should ride at a comfortable pace and take full advantage of route support whenever needed.

We work hard to create a proactive approach to safety so that everyone has a great ride and arrives safely at the finish line. Take a look at the following safe ride practices and get familiar with the rules of the road.

Additional Bike MS Safety Guidelines:

  • Each cyclist must carry identification, emergency contact information and insurance cards while riding and participating in a Bike MS event.
  • All participants must complete the medical release and contact information forms on the back of their rider bibs.
  • All cyclists are given an emergency wristband.
    • If there is a minor incident during the event, call the Rider Assistance Line listed on the wristband.
    • If there is an emergency, call 911.
  • Helmets must be on your head and strapped while riding in a Bike MS event — please contact your local staff if you need to request an exemption to this requirement.
  • Head injuries are a special concern for cyclists. Even falling at a slow rate of speed can cause a serious head injury. Headphones, cell phones, radios and similar devices are not permitted while riding.
  • The route is not closed to traffic, so cyclists need to exercise caution at all times and obey all rules of the road.
  • Rear blinking lights on your bike help improve safety by making you more visible to cars.
